My daughter came to me swearing she would not vote simply because of what Brand said and I had a nice long chat where I told her that the revolution was at least a few years off ,yet and that not voting would be futile. I would rather my daughter came to me talking about Brand because he takes them young people to places politicians could never ever take them he gets them interested and asking questions. She voted because we have all been manipulated and brain washed to do so and yet still it is for now the best system we have is it perfect no.

In fairness, Brand did say "Dont vote"... but he finished with "...Unless a party represents YOU"
Im not surprised that people only choose to latch on to the former rather than the latter because it makes good copy and its ammo to shoot at him for those that are so bothered by him.
He felt as though Labour represents him, or at least certain ideals and so he did it. Although I havent heard him say or being quoted as saying that he voted at all, but I may have missed that.
I personally wouldnt give my name to the labour party despite them being the 'lesser evil' as they are still a million miles away from what I believe in... but he saw different and who can argue with that? other than those wishing to score points...

I think Brand's media profile - particularly the 'don't vote' issue - was one of the reasons for the high turnout this election. I noticed the huge amount of 'Have your say, Go Vote' type things on social media (so aimed at mainly the type of people who would know what Brand stood for) that have been doing the rounds these past weeks.
You can argue as to whether or not Brand is correct in his arguments (Surely the 'people fought and died for the freedom you enjoy' stance also includes the freedom to not do anything?) but I think - perhaps inadvertently - he actually did a public service in raising the issue.
What will be interesting now is if those who voted feel they have been adequately represented by the number of seats gained. With Labour failing due to the collapse of the Scottish vote, the third largest party is one that none of us in England can vote for. But as long as the SNP exists and is successful then Labour can probably never win another election.
BTW I don't necessarily agree with Brand - although I like him and defend his right to say it - but if you're taking the 'don't vote' to its logical end, you alos need to discuss three seats held by Sein Fein that nobody ever occupies. It's inevitable that some people will say well we did vote but we have a whole party who can't even be arsed to turn up - where is THAT right?
